Diabetes Advocacy Toolbox
The Advocacy Toolbox can be used by any public health professional. It is designed to help you reach your legislative and/or policy goals or those of your partners. The Toolbox offers public health professionals information on how to advocate for diabetes, examples of advocacy efforts in other states, and tools for analyzing proposed legislation.

The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) Competency Assessment Tool for Teams enables chronic disease program staff to assess the proficiency of current and prospective team members across the range of skills and knowledge specific to your program or project team.

ADVANTAGE INITIATIVE
The Advantage Initiative is helping communities around the country measure and improve their elder friendliness and, in the process, make their communities good places to live for people of all ages. The program’s website (http://www.vnsny.org/advantage/) features: profiles of pilot communities participating in the project, tools used to frame and measure their elder friendliness, information about using survey data to increase awareness and prioritize aging issues, design action plans and allocate resources more effectively, and related publications.
ADVOCACY ON BUDGET CUTS
The Praxis Project has developed a toolkit, "Fighting Back on Budget Cuts," to support advocacy around the severe budget cuts that have affected both state and local budgets. The Praxis Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to capacity building, technical assistance, research and training for community-based policy change. SCHOOL FOODS TOOL KIT
The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has developed a new School Foods Tool Kit to help parents, health professionals, community groups, teachers and school administrators to improve the nutritional quality of the meals, snacks and drinks available to students. The Kit includes: model policies, fact sheets, advice about how to influence school decision makers and build support for change, and sample letters, flyers and other model materials. www.cspinet.org/schoolfoods

Partnership for Prevention® has developed a new tool, Smoke-Free Policies: Establishing a Smoke-Free Ordinance to Reduce Exposure to Secondhand Smoke in Indoor Worksites and Public Places—An Action Guide, to help public health professionals maximize the beneficial impact of smoke-free laws. COALITION BUILDING TIPS
Two coalition-building papers are now available from the Prevention Institute, online under What's New at: http://www.preventioninstitute.org/home.html . "The Tension of Turf: Making it Work for the Coalition," explores turf issues that commonly arise among coalition members and offers helpful tips for overcoming them. "Collaboration Math: Enhancing the Effectiveness of Multidisciplinary Collaboration," describes the application of this Prevention Institute tool at the University of California Berkeley's Traffic Safety Center, illustrating how multidisciplinary groups can use this tool to increase effective collaboration.
 
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF)
RE-AIM: EVALUATING HEALTH BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONS
A project funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation provides a systematic way for researchers, practitioners, and policy decision makers to evaluate health behavior interventions.
